India adds over 3 lakh Covid cases for sixth day in a rowNEW DELHI: India’s Covid situation continues to remain grim. The country added over 3 lakh new cases for the sixth straight day. In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,23,144 new infections came to light, pushing the case count to 1,76,36,307, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Tuesday.

With 2,771 new deaths, the death toll has climbed to 1,97,894, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The active caseload of the country stands at 28,82,204 cases, which is 16.34 percent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 82.54 percent. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease stands at 1,45,56,209, the data stated.

On April 5, 2021, India saw over 1 lakh new cases for the first time since the pandemic began. On Monday, the country recorded a new high of 3.52 lakh cases.

According to ICMR, a total of 28,09,79,877 samples have been tested up to April 26. Of which, 16,58,700 samples were tested on Monday.
